Write four pages of answers regarding the three questions asked below, fifth page should be works cited in MLA. The topic is Direct Air Capture do not go off topic.
1. A brief history of the subject. What experimental phenomenon, or theoretical questions led to interest in the field?
Example: The expansion rate of the universe is increasing, and has been increasing since the Big Bang. The current understanding of gravity as an attractive force would indicate that the rate should be slowing down. This unexpected experimental observation has led to theory that there exists an unknown form of matter, commonly referred to as “dark matter,” which interacts with gravity as a repulsive force.
2. Recent experiments that have been carried out, and the results they yielded. Provide details about the history of the experimental design, the challenges faced in the execution, and the results.
Example: For several decades, it was believed, as a result of mathematical calculations, that there existed a particle called the Higgs boson, which is responsible for the phenomenon we experience as “mass.” The problem with this theory was that, from the time of its proposal in the late 1960s, until very recently it could not be tested since the technology did not exist to do so. The energies needed to “see” the Higgs boson are so large that a completely new type of particle accelerator, costing billions of dollars, needed to be built. This required a collaboration between several nations. Finally, in March 2013, research groups at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) at CERN, announced experimental findings confirming the existence of the Higgs boson.
3. Impact and Future Directions: What are the next steps in this research area, and what is suggested by recent findings?
Example: The discovery of gravitational waves in 2016, which were originally predicted by Albert Einstein in his 1915 papers, was enormously significant and led to a Nobel Prize in 2017. Now that gravitational waves have been discovered, scientists are theorizing about the ways they can be used in applications such as energy-production and space travel.
