Why or why not?

FINAL ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
Your final Assignment will consist of your multi-paragraph (minimum of 5 paragraphs) response to the following prompt:
PROMPT Some people argue that children’s literature is inherently simplistic and silly, while others argue that children’s literature is inherently complex and important. Which side do you come down on? Or do you see both sides? Why or why not?
You will notice that the prompt is rather open-ended. This is by design; I want you to have a great deal of freedom in your writing in this course. So, please remember to balance your own individual thinking with conventional academic writing patterns (intro + body + conclusion, context + claim + evidence + explanation, etc.). Also, no matter what you think I believe, this is ultimately about that YOU believe, about how YOU see these issues and ideas. As such, there is not one correct answer, but rather lots of different ways that you might approach this topic.
Additionally, as part of your response, you will need to include quotes from at least 2 sources (these can be from any those I have posted here on eLearn or those you find on your own). Just to be clear: I am expecting you to find some way to approach this as a typical essay; in other words, I will be looking for you to construct at least a 5-paragraph response that offers a coherent argument supported by evidence and explanation.
As I grade your assignment I will be looking for:
your inclusion of an informative/possibly creative title for your essay that connects to your specific thesis
your capability for developing (at least 5) effective paragraphs
your use of quotes from at least 2 sources
your use of personal experiences/anecdotes (IF and only IF you think that they help)
your uses of two kinds/levels of examples (particularly from children’s texts)
your justifications for your choice of examples
your explanations regrading why your response to the prompt matters
your use of as close to MLA form as you can get (in-text citations, Work Cited, etc.)
