Throughout this class, we will be discussing culture and its influence on our own world views.
In order to explore and clarify you understanding of your own culture and how it may influence
your worldview, you will write the following paper.
For this paper, you will first describe your worldview/cultural belief system within your
developmental/family environment. Specific topics to be covered in the paper will be family
rules, roles, rituals, communication styles, emotional expression and subsystems. Refer to the
handout posted on Canvas and be sure to address all the concepts listed in your family when
growing up. Be sure to also take the time to address each of those topics with content from the
textbook (integrate and accurately cite concepts from the book in APA format with a reference
sheet). Also be sure that your paper flows together cohesively instead of being a “laundry list”
of responses. In your paper, be sure to 1) describe how your family interpreted those concepts of
a worldview and 2) now as an adult, which aspects of your upbringing do you still have in your
worldview? Which ones do you not have? Your paper should not be more than 7-8 pages (APA
format: Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced, 1 inch margins, appropriate citations).
Be sure to also have a reference sheet. You will submit the paper online through Canvas.

A back ground of who I am:
White woman who is 26 whose mother abandoned her due to SUD and underlying mental issues. My father(Glenn King) raised me from the age of 5 onwards when he got custody back after stopping drugs. He does not believe in mental health and was always gone due to being a small business owner, its called Kings Drywall inc and he builds apartments and such. He had no conversations with me and I figured everything out on my own and around the age of 12 he married my step mother, Beth King. Neither of them knew about mental health or how to communicate. They searched my things growing up and when I would be “in trouble” such as not feeding the dogs when told I would get hit with a fly swatter. They would make me sit at a table for 4 hours trying to make me talk about what’s going on but I did not trust them. I was diagnosed with BPD at the age of 20 when I got help myself and My real mother (teresa) never came around much nor did she call me much.
We are all white and I am unsure of where my ancestors are from.
Everyday coming home from school I had to feed the animals, wash the dishes and vacuum. I was expected to complete all homework assignments and my step mother had constant contact with my teachers. I had no privacy such as they took my door down when I was 12 years old. I had a journal that I hid in my room and they read it so it was then I realized I could not even express myself there. I went to church every Wednesday and Sunday as they went and I was never allowed to stay home. I hated growing up in that household so I stayed in my room and did not talk much to my parents. My father made me feel like I needed to walk on eggshells. You can write whatever but this is my background so you can get an idea of how we communicated
