What characteristics are specific to poetry?

Write a 5-page essay (750 words, double spaced) on :
Compare the experience of reading poetry to the experience of reading short fiction. Look closely at the characteristics the two genres have in common. What characteristics are specific to poetry? Fiction? How do these differences account for the differences in reading the two genres?
