Your paper should be at least 1300 words of your own content, but no more than 1450 words.
Your paper should be in your own voice. You achieve this by using your own words to convey information and your thoughts. If you use a quote it should be to bolster your claim but not as a substitute for your own analysis.
Your paper should be in essay form.

Part 1: Political Ideologies
Go back to Chapters 5 & 7 to refresh your memory on the topic of political ideologies.
After you’ve refreshed your memory, open each of the following two politicians’ websites and read through their positions on issues/topics that concern them.

Question #1: After reviewing each politician’s webpage, and using your textbook, specifically Chapters #5 and #7,
what can you determine is EACH candidate’s viewpoint on the role of the federal government?
what is the specific political ideology EACH of these candidates subscribes to?
Support your answer by citing evidence from the politicians’ positions on issues/topics, but put this evidence in your own words.
Make sure to answer this question for EACH candidate. If the candidates agree on a particular issues/topics, feel free to group those candidates together according to their ideology.
NOTE: You’ve already done this type of synthesis and analysis. You did it when you completed the Video Review Paper “Our Concern: Gender Equality.”
Part 2: Convergence and Divergence
In Part 1, you opened each of the following two candidates’ websites and read through their positions on issues/topics that concern them.

You’ve determined these candidates’ viewpoints on the role of the federal government and their specific political ideology to which they subscribe.
For Part 2, I want you to discuss the points of convergence and divergence of these candidates’ positions.
Question #2A: Cite two issues/topics on which the two candidates are in agreement (or share common ground), AND state the ideological reason for why they are in agreement. (Refer to Chapters 5 & 7 for these political ideologies.) Explain your answer in detail.
Question #2B: Cite two issues/topics where the two candidates are in disagreement, AND state the specific political ideology the candidates have which is the reason for why they disagree. (Again, refer to Chapters 5 & 7 for these political ideologies.) Explain your answer in detail.
Question #3: What is the news media outlet you have been using to learn about Fetterman’s policies and political agenda AND/OR Oz’s policies and political agenda? (Name the actual news media outlet.) Do you think that that news media outlet has clearly shown you how that particular senate candidate’s agenda is similar to or different from their own political party’s overall agenda, AND the overall agenda of their opponent? If not, why not? Explain in detail.
Part 3: Political Advertisement Analysis
(After you read through this Part, you might have an “A-ha!” moment regarding why I assigned the video review paper on the commercial!)
I’ve attached an Excel spreadsheet that has six short campaign videos from the candidates from the two major political parties who ran candidates in Pennsylvania’s senate election of 2022.
Watch each of those videos AND use that attached Excel spreadsheet to plug in the specifics of the videos. By filling in this spreadsheet you’ll be able to better organize the information about the videos and it will aid you in working your way through this section of the assignment.
After you’ve plugged in all the pertinent information for each of the six advertisements (3 for Fetterman, 3 for Oz),
write an essay that answers the following questions for FOUR of the videos. You’ll pick two ads from Fetterman and you’ll pick two ads from Oz. You get to select which two ads for each candidate. After you’ve selected the four video ads (2 for Fetterman & 2 for Oz), answer these questions for EACH of the four videos:
What is the issue/topic of the video, and what is the candidate’s position on it?
What are the key images used in the ad?
Describe the ad’s sound/audio and state how it tries to drive home the candidate’s message.
Are there key words and/or a slogan in the ad? What are they and what purpose do they serve?
What emotion(s) is the ad seeking to arouse in you?
What is the ad trying to get you to do or feel?
What type of ad is it?: Negative; Warm and Fuzzy; Biography & Vision; Humorous; Scary; Advocacy; Trust
Who is the intended audience for the advertisement?
