The purpose of this writing exercise is to learn and to write an evaluative review of a journal article. The topic or theme of the article should fall within or relating to organizational behavior and leadership. Generally, journal articles, working papers and similar works will be used for review. The material reviewed should be related to the theme of organizational behavior and leadership. It is important for you to learn how to write about another author’s work. That is different from writing down exactly what the author wrote. Under no circumstance should you copy material from an article and represent it as your own work. If you need to quote briefly from an article to make a point, be sure to put the quotation in quotation marks, and give the page number of the quote.
Write an introduction paragraph that informs the reader that you intend to review an article or other document. Tell the reader the reason why you selected that particular article to review.
Make an effort to cover the following points. It may require more than one paragraph to cover them.
State the general and specific objective of the article. What was the main theme of the article?
What new ideas or information were communicated in the article?
Writing about the research methodology and results is critical to your review. These questions are to hone your skills in critical thinking about research methodology.
What methods did the authors use to reach conclusions?
How were the data collected and analyzed?
Who were the subjects?
Briefly describe the research methodology.
What were the basic results or findings from the research?
Give your impressions of the usefulness of the article. Write the strengths and weaknesses of the article in separate paragraphs. Give your reasons for your opinions.
Were the findings important to a reader?
Were the conclusions valid? Do you agree with the conclusions?
Write a conclusion paragraph that briefly informs the reader what you wrote about in your review and your overall findings.
Carefully proofread your work before submitting it.
Your written review will be approximately 2 – 3 pages.
Use 1.5 line spacing and 12 font size New Romans with justify the text.
Write the citation of the article in APA (American Psychological Association) format.
Also write your name on the document and send your review to the instructor by hardcopy
