The project for this unit is our first dive into diseases. Select one disease that has symptoms on the skin. Describe the cause, how that disease changes the skin, what are the signs and symptoms, how is it treated, can it be cured?
I’m looking for about two pages of description/discussion on your condition, along with a couple of images either of the appearance of the skin or (you can draw images or pull them from the large number of images on google docs.) An interesting site to look at was created by the mother of a child whose disease was delayed in diagnosis because health care providers often cannot identify rashes on darker skin. I’ve linked it below for your information.
Some possible choices of conditions to study: warts, eczema, acne, chickenpox, sunburn, other burns, ringworm, impetigo, measles, vitiligo, scleroderma, pressure sores (decubitous ulcers), hives–or anything else that has a symptom that shows up on the skin.
