Think about what you learned about Sor Juana’s life and what you read in her Reply to Sor Filotea. Imagine that you are in Sor Juana’s place. You have been told that you cannot do what matters to you the most. You have a great passion and curiosity to read, study, write, and self-improve, but those in power have taken that away from you. They will not allow you to exercise the freedoms that they enjoy. If you were in her situation, and the same would have happened to you, how would you feel? What would you say to them?
Write your own letter in first person point-of-view, addressed to someone in a power position, telling them why this is unfair and why you should be allowed to do what matters to you the most.
The letter should be at least 250 words.
