(i) Research question (1/2 page) – 20 pts
To explore topics of interests you can use the required reading books for the class,
newspapers, or environmental econ blogs (e.g. https://energyathaas.wordpress.com/)
(ii) Why is this topic important? (1/2 page) – 25 pts
Is the question of substantial economic interest? (policy debate, pushing the
knowledge frontier, implications for the validity/reliability of prior research etc.)
(iii) What did previous research have to say about this topic? (2 pages) – 20 pts
Only refer to academic research articles (papers) that is DIRECTLY relevant for your research
question stated above.
Below you will find some suggestions to search for previous research.
(iv) What is/are the GAP(s) in the previous research? (1 page) – 30 pts
Explain why the existing literature is deficient.
What the existing literature is missing that is crucial to answer the research question?
(v) References (1 page) – 5 pts
List all the references used in your article. You can use either the APA, Harvard or
Chicago style of referencing work. http://www.citethisforme.com/guides. However
you are not allowed to mix these styles. Pick one and stick with it.
Please note: Handwritten papers will NOT be accepted, unless your handwriting looks as neatly
as the printing from a typewriter. The main text should be double-spaced. Do not use a font
smaller than 11 pt or larger than 12 pt. The length of the paper should not exceed 5 pages.Please for section (iii), you can use academic articles from:
• Journals listed in Table 15 and 16 in this paper. In addition, articles from the
Journal of the Association of Environmental.
• Working papers from NBER.
