The following essay assignment is the equivalent of a final exam. It is the only essay that is graded on a 0-100% scale. Please take care in your answer, which should reflect the depth of what you’ve learned this semester.
At the beginning of the semester, on the syllabus you read the learning objectives for the course:
Identify key terms relating to theories of gender, socialization, feminism and its critics
Apply these ideas to their own lived experiences
Evaluate the theoretical position that most resonates
Identify important events and people in the fight for women’s suffrage
Distinguish among examples of public opinion and political behavior in which there are and are not gender gaps
Recognize the ways that the media influences public opinion
Recognize differences in media coverage of female and male candidates
Identify the ways political parties and advocacy groups recruit candidates and influence voters
Identify the historical waves of women running for elected office
Recognize the multifaceted nature of political representation.

Consider what you now know can say about each of these points. Choose the three objectives about which you feel the most knowledgeable. Write an essay that explains what you know, with your target audience being another political science major or minor who hasn’t taken this class.
