The choice of topic for the research essay is open. However, all research papers must meet the following criteria:
Your topic must reflect the core themes of the course (Global Environmental Governance, Sustainable Development).
There must be an explicit international and governance dimension to your topic. A topic with an explicit ‘international’ dimension is one that involves interaction between two or more states/nations (or subnational entities in two or more states); or if your topic involves a single state/nation there must be an explicit ‘external’-‘domestic’ aspect. A topic with an explicit ‘governance’ dimension entails a focus one or more of the governance instruments/mechanisms covered in the course (i.e., international institutions, laws, policies, etc.)
It must be a contemporary topic/issue.
MY TOPIC: I would like to talk about climatic issues and Government’s battle with resolving such issues; this will extend to Paris Agreement as well as a little bit into 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Each paragraph of my essay will talk about specific issues as I mentioned, such as climate change, role of government and types of actors in CC, policies and enforcements, geographic comparison such as Global North and South and finally discuss the rate of success of Paris Agreement in achieving their goals.
