1. Find someone within your COVID Safety bubble (roommate, family member, etc) to be
the subject of a general gait analysis.
2. Obtain their verbal consent to participate as a subject in walking data collection for your
Biomechanics lab. This data will be recorded anonymously and protected/disposed of
appropriately after this assignment is completed.
3. Find an open area (such as a long hallway, a sidewalk, or a park) that is safe and at
least 40 feet in length. You may need a longer space if your subject is a fast walker.
4. You will instruct the subject to walk in a straight line for 10 seconds at their self selected,
comfortable pace. It is recommended that you use a mark for the beginning and end so
that you can take measurements. You may need to do some trial runs (pilot study) to
practice taking precise timing and to ensure your walkway is long enough.
5. You may want to take a recording of the trial you will use to take data from so that you
can review as necessary.

b. Average speed (m/s, km/h and mph)
