In health sciences research, research questions can be framed using the PICO framework. The initials stand for “Population/patient,” “intervention,” “comparison,” and “outcome,” respectively (Eriksen & Frandsen, 2018). According to Leonardo (2018), PICO helps researchers design a clinical question addressing the individual population or patient issue that generates clinically-relevant evidence in the literature and for making valid recommendations to improve healthcare services. Therefore, this discussion addresses the development of research questions using the PICO framework.
