The discipline of Egyptology is closely intertwined with Western colonial powers. Egypt is used in many different ways by the West, be it in film and TV, or in advertising – actual Egyptians rarely have any input or say in these uses. Read the article and consider the following questions in your response:
How has the West’s engagement with Egypt changed since the discipline’s founding in the 1800s?
How does the West use Egypt and its heritage today (e.g., film)? Are there any potential problems with how this is done?
How do you think this affects Egyptian audiences? Their feelings about their heritage?
