Cyber threats are becoming more prevalent in the aviation domain, and many of them could have significant safety implications. To mitigate the risk, simple replication of components is not enough, because two or more identical components can be compromised at the same time by exploiting a common software vulnerability. This is one of the clear cases in which a common cause (exploiting an existing software vulnerability) could disable, at the same time, both the main controller and the secondary one, and thus transitioning the controlled system directly into a failed state.
