Preliminary Assignment (3.4) Term Writing Project Research
What is your PRIMARY cultural event for the term paper, as approved by the instructor?
Have you seen this event in person, or will you “experience” it through a video? If you will use a video, please provide the URL for at least one substantial video that shows the event from the perspective of the culture of origin. In other words, you do not want a tourist-type video of the event. If you have questions, ask.
Answer these questions about the video. Write a few brief paragraphs below instead of answering Q&A style.
What did you hear and see?
What stood out to you while experiencing this event? (Write a short paragraph – 3-5 sentences. Be specific as to what you noticed.)
What was your initial impression of the culture represented by the video when you experienced this event?
Find a source in the ECPI online library that provides some information about the cultural event. On the Library home page, on the left side of the page, you will see a section for “Research”. If you can’t find anything on your own, use the “Ask the Librarian” feature.
Start with Reference Collections and choose the Credo database. See if you can find some background information about your cultural event there.
Next try the Databases (Articles and More) option and chose College (Gale in Context).
Based on what you found in one or both of these databases, provide some information about your cultural event. Some questions (answer in paragraph format, below, in your own words):
When did the event start? What is its history?
What are some of the meanings of the symbols and practices involved in the event to the culture of origin?
Describe the event – what happens during it?
Cite the source for the information in APA format (the article should have a “cite” feature which allows you to choose APA 7th edition).
