Option One: Internal Proposal for Cultivating
Produce on Two Acres of a Specific ACC Campus
Your Task For this
option, imagine that Dr. Richard Rhodes (ACC Chancellor) has asked you to investigate
how to proceed with cultivating vegetable crops at one of the ACC campuses that
has unused, fertile land. A percentage of ACC students are facing food shortages
and other nutritional challenges. In addition, an increasing number of Austin
residents are growing food for themselves. Some of these residents cultivate
food in one of the city’s community gardens; however, the number of people who want
to grow their own food outweighs the available space in these plots.
Most of the
information in the above paragraph is fairly general; the info is a way for you to start thinking about what to propose. For your
drafts of the proposal, you must make that information (and the additional
information you locate through research) much more concrete and precise.
For instance, “cultivating vegetable
crops at one of the ACC campuses that has unused, fertile land” does not
specify which particular vegetables to grow, and it does not specify which one
of the ACC campuses. So, you must choose and specify a limited number of vegetable
crops that grow well in Central Texas; you must also decide which specific ACC
campus should grow the crops.
Also, when you
are getting more specific, consider how ACC can afford to dedicate some of its
land for community gardening. Should some of this land be available to students
who want to grow food for classwork, for private consumption, or for donating
to the needy? Alternatively, could some of this land be “rented” by members of
the local community who cannot obtain a spot in a community garden?
For this
option, you need to choose one particular ACC campus, research the above-mentioned
possibilities for ACC’s available land, and write a proposal to Dr. Richard Rhodes,
to persuade him to implement vegetable cultivation at that campus.
In your
proposal, you must explain and illustrate why your plan is
affordable, and you must fully explain how your plan will benefit
the college and the community; you should include appropriate information,
data, explanations, and graphics, suitable for your specific audience. This
option a five-to-seven pages proposal.
This assignment
requires conducting and documenting research that supports your proposal’s
main idea. For this assignment, you are researching, drafting, writing, and
revising a five-to-seven-page, single-spaced proposal that leads its
readers to ACT upon your conclusions/recommended
actions.
In developing Document
Four, you will collect, analyze, and choose research and data from at least
two sources but no more than four sources. Explanations and examples in HH Chapters 18 and 20 and in other syllabus-assigned
Document
Four files should guide your research, your organization, and your format
for the proposal. This assignment must also demonstrate your understanding of how
graphic design reinforces your text. Document Four must
contain labeled-and-documented visuals/graphics and must include: (1) an executive
summary/overview section with a clear, sharp focus
(2) an introduction
paragraph/section that includes the main idea of the document
(3) a discussion section with several well-focused paragraphs that
a. detail
and persuasively explain the introduction’s main idea and information more
fully b. address
the audience’s needs and benefits
c. provide
a plausible budget for the proposed action and
d. include a plausible timeline-for-action
(4) a conclusions/recommendations
section (5) a Works
Cited page, and (6) an Appendix. The Works Cited
and the Appendix do not count
toward your total of five-to-seven single-spaced
pages.

that is detailed in the Bb-posted APA
Documentation handout and in HH Appendix
A Your Doc Four Appendix must include PDFs or Word files of the research materials you
include (This Document Four Appendix section may also include relevant tables, charts, et cetera
