Large community events require communication and collaboration across multiple agencies for a safe and secure experience for the public.
Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:
• What organizations are charged with handling large special events (sporting, concerts, performances, etc.) in your area, and how do they communicate with each other to coordinate safety and security at these events?
• What operational and communication protocols would change if the large special event in your area did not have security preplanned and an emergency were to take place?
RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING
The Little Caesars Arena is home to the Detroit Red Wings & Pistons. The arena is a multi-purpose structure located in Mid-Detroit. In the case of a concert, most arena security is already mapped out prior to a concert. Each arena security personnel knows their designated area and responsibility. They also contract with outside safety and security contracts that help with backstage security that is to be the protection for the artist in which they study the ins and outs of where the artist will be designated, they also ensure they note the quickest escape route for emergency purposes. Each department communicates before the concert and is even given communication devices to talk to if an emergency occurs. Police are also included in the detail as they will be backstage. The artist will bring their own security or entourage to communicate directly with the artist and either be on stage or on the side of the stage for the artist’s protection. If these precautions are not set into place the event is most likely not to happen rather if it is a sports event, concert, etc.
RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING
One of the large places that handles large special events where I live is Hershey Park Stadium. This stadium hosts several concerts each summer and they run smoothy. In order them to run smoothy there needs to be communication from all parties to assure safety and security at these events. During concerts there is security and police present in order to stop any unwanted behavior. Another safety agency that is involved during these events is Emergency Medical Services (EMS). EMS is there is assure that anyone who is hurt or feeling ill is able to be taken care of. There are also general organizations such as food distribution and alcohol distribution. This requires training to assure that food is prepared correctly and individuals are being carded.
If the large special events in the area did not have security preplanned and emergency were to take place, it would cause complete chaos. There would be people scrambling to get help or people who be doing stuff to get on stage and not being stopped. It would cause an unsafe environment for everyone. All the protocols would need to change if there was no preplanned arrangement.
