Interview a social worker (this could be your Agency Field Instructor, Task Supervisor, or other staff) at the agency about an ethical dilemma they have encountered in practice. Ask the following questions:
What was the ethical dilemma? How did you come to recognize the situation as an ethical dilemma?
Did personal values or beliefs influence the situation in any way? If so, describe how personal values and beliefs influenced decisions, and describe how you dealt with the situation.
What steps did you take to resolve the ethical dilemma?
Did you use a framework to guide decision-making? If so, which framework was used?
What was the outcome?
Reflect on the information you obtained from the social worker and answer the following questions.
1. What are your reactions to the situation and the chosen course of action?
2. How would you approach such a situation if you encountered it in practice?
3. What would you use to guide your decision-making process in such a situation?
4. What are the core values, principles, and standards that inform practice regarding the situation and your approach. Please cite the NASW Code of Ethics
(Links to an external site.)
in your response.
Your reflection should be approximately 1-2 pages, double-spaced using Times New Roman 12- point font.
