*Slavery was a diverse institution across Brazil and the Caribbean. Number of slaves, size of a territory or island, colonizing European power, local enslavers and the diverse population of enslaved people all contributed to this. What are some of the specific ways that slavery and the experiences of those who suffered under it differed?
*We are again touching on demographics of the formerly enslaved. One shocking demographic consideration was slave mortality. What statements are made about once-enslaved people’s longevity are made by authorities consider in this week’s readings?
*Plantations were businesses. What did this mean for once-enslaved people who worked on them?
