Getting Started
You are now entering the “research plan” portion of the research process (this research plan is not the same thing as the program or practice evaluation plan that you will use to help you with all sections of your final paper). The research plan is the logic of how a program evaluator will answer questions about the program. The research plan will help answer the research questions about whether the program is being implemented properly (i.e., formative program evaluation) or whether the program is achieving its goals (i.e., summative program evaluation).
For this discussion board post you will need to select a research design and data collection method for your program evaluation. The first part of your research plan consists of selecting a research design or type of study that fits the purposes of the evaluation. You already discussed part of this section when you identified the “purpose of your evaluation” in an earlier Workshop. The basic research designs used in program evaluation are formative designs, survey designs, pre-post designs, and impact assessments in the form of quasi-experimental and experimental designs. So, you will need to pick a design you plan to use to evaluate your social work program, in addition to addressing at least two threats to the internal validity of your program evaluation.
The second part of your research plan consists of deciding on a data collection procedure. The types of data collection procedures include a questionnaire, personal interview, telephone interview, focus group, direct observation, and secondary data. So, you will need to identify and discuss at least two data collection methods you plan to use to collect data for your program evaluation. For each of the data collection methods you choose you will need to address its advantages and disadvantages.
Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:
Design and support a research plan for clinical practice (PLO 13)
Analyze quantitative and qualitative research methods and findings (PLO 13)
Suggest implications for practice based on research findings (PO 13; ILO 5)

You can also use similar keywords to search for relevant videos. Keep in mind that whatever video(s) you decide to utilize for your assignment, you must cite them in your reference section. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
Read Chapters 7 and 8 from the Handbook textbook.
Read pages 511 – 519 from the article, Behavioral Treatment of PTSD in a Perpetrator of Manslaughter: A Single Case Study.
Select one research design you plan to use to evaluate your social work program.
Navigate to the Discussion page and respond to the following:
Address at least one threat to the internal validity of your program evaluation utilizing the research design you chose (see pages 260-267 of the textbook for more help on this piece).
Identify and discuss at least one data collection method you plan to use to collect data for your program evaluation.
Expound upon at least one advantage and one disadvantage of using the aforementioned data collection method.
