COVID-19 has caused a worldwide pandemic just as your hospital selected a new president. Hospital administration is aware that you are completing a Risk Management and promotes you from your current department head position to a hospital risk manager. The hospital president was told you were the best out there. This president is a novice in risk management and badly needs to get up to speed quickly. You have been asked to provide a detailed briefing giving them ‘everything they need to do right away to mitigate risk to the hospital, patients, and staff.
Select one hospital department: Emergency Department, Surgical Services, Inpatient Medicine, or Outpatient Services. Develop a comprehensive risk management plan for your selected department. The plan must allow for continued medical services (patient urgent and routine healthcare needs do not disappear during a pandemic) as well as the safety of patients and staff. Your plan must also remain in compliance with applicable regulations, mandates, and legislation. A good plan will be multi-disciplinary and include policies, procedures, training schedules, contingencies for unforeseen events, and communication to patients/staff.
