Chapter 5 Discussion
In 1944, the Supreme Court upheld the authority of the U.S. government to order the internment of a minority group in the interest of national security, even though there was no evidence that any members of this group were disloyal to the United States.
Compare and contrast this with the detainment of undocumented migrants/ illegal immigrants currently conducted under the Trump Administration.
Consider:
Is detainment in either situation justified? (Why or why not)?
What disruptions occurred to the lives of individuals detained in both situations?
What about the separation of families (What are the reasons for this given by the Roosevelt/ Trump Administrations for these actions)?
What were the long-term goals of each program?
What has the Biden Administration done to change the border policy?
