Basic Requirements
*5-7 page research paper (Works Cited does not count toward your 5-7 pages)
*Use 10-15 college-level sources. Most of these should be secondary sources. You may use some of the research from the Informative Paper.
*Of those 10-15 sources, use at least one reliable e-book or physical book
*Use at least one element of primary research by doing one of the following: interviewing a professional in the field that would be relevant to the topic, conducting a survey, or using other primary sources like historical documents, literary works, field reports, letters, court documents, etc.
*Use double-spaced, black Times New Roman 12 pt. font. Do not have extra space between paragraphs of the same style. Use 1” margins all the way around.
*Write to a professional, college-educated audience who may be generally familiar with your topic.
*Use complete, proper MLA format including in-text citations and a Works Cited.
*Paper should identify a problem and propose a solution that you will defend in the paper. The thesis in your intro should reflect the problem and solution. Argue that it is a problem first and the extent, seriousness, and effects of the problem first before you argue for the solution in the rest of the essay.
*The proposed solution needs to be based on research.
*Localize the issue at either the city, county, or state level. Also appropriate would be by location (at home, at work, etc.). Inappropriate essay topics would be of national concern (e.g. legalizing marijuana, gun control, etc.)
