“Adolescent Experiences Workshop” Project
Objective: To investigate the potential experiences that may impact adolescents, to assess the associated risk factors, and to theorize protective factors that may be implemented.
Choose one of the following topics:
Adolescent Pregnancy
Eating Disorders
Substance Use
Dropping Out of High School
Teenage Employment
Establishing an Identity
Developing Healthy Peer Relationships
Another topic of your choosing (please run by me first)
Directions: Imagine that you have been hired by a school district in Massachusetts to provide a workshop to teachers at the high school who work directly with adolescents. The teachers are interested in understanding what current research suggests about this topic, and how they can best support their students. You are to write a summary of your workshop for the superintendent to review ahead of time plus create a brief Power Point presentation.
In your workshop, you should address:
What does current research suggest about this topic? Consider current trends, statistics, etc.
What are some risk factors associated with the topic? Provide one example of a risk factor at each level of the environment according to Bronfenbrenner (theoretical image on next page).
What are some protective factors that can be implemented? Provide one example of a protective factor at each level of the environment according to Bronfenbrenner (theoretical image on next page).
Formatting:
Approximately 5 pages for the paper + 3-5 slides for the Power Point presentation
Times New Roman, size 12 font
Double-spaced
1-inch margins on all sides
APA-style cover page, reference page & in-text citations
I
nclude (1) scholarly journal research article (in addition to our textbook if you should also choose to use that) to support your arguments (you can use any of the articles I have posted on Moodle as your scholarly journal source or locate your own)
All work MUST be submitted through the assignment dropbox on Moodle
