Please choose one of the following topics and write a 1200-word minimum (NOT including
bibliography) essay. You need to do research and cite your references in an organized manner.
Please keep in mind that references can include news articles and books (Wikipedia or any
other “pedia” site is NOT an academic source). I would suggest a minimum of five different
references.

1. The Supreme Court recently overturned Roe v. Wade. Review the majority opinion in Dobbs v.
Jackson Women’s Health Organization and examine the constitutional questions addressed in
the case. Do you agree or disagree with the majority? Why? (This is NOT a pro-choice or pro-
life position paper but rather an examination and assessment of the Supreme Court’s ruling).
2. This is a midterm election year. Choose one race or California proposition to examine and
assess. What are the major issues and what is your assessment of the issue or candidate? Be
specific. This should briefly include the results of the election (can be added to the end since it
is due shortly after election day).
3. Examine the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. What has been the response by the
United States and NATO? Is President Biden handling the issue appropriately? Why or why not?
