The final exam is a short writing assignment that consists of two essay questions. Write a fully-developed answer (3-4 paragraphs; 4-6 sentences per paragraph) for each of the below questions.
1.Diversity consciousness and inclusive leadership requires understanding our own conscious beliefs, norms, and assumptions as well as our unconscious biases and value systems. Identify two prejudices or stereotypes that are common in your own culture towards another ethnic or racial group and address the following questions:
Why do you think these stereotypes might exist?
How did your life experiences inform your diversity awareness.? Provide specific examples of diversity-related situations you have encountered.
What needs to change to create a more racially and ethnically inclusive society?
How can leaders be the catalysts?
Refrain from generic answers and provide examples along with details to communicate your views effectively. I am interested in your personal insights, not quotes from other sources. Please refrain from generic answers and provide examples along with details to communicate your views effectively.
2. Typical approach is to promote awareness of our unconscious biases as the solution to all the challenges that accompany diversity and inclusion efforts. In contrary, Duguid & Thomas-Hunt (2015) claimed that awareness of unconscious biases actually increases problematic behavior because when people know that everyone is biased, they become less motivated to work against their own biases (self-preservation)
Construct an essay to explain your own position on this topic. Provide a strong thesis statement in your introduction, make your case, and provide a strong conclusion. Please DO NOT simply answer each question below, but use them to develop your own argument points:
What is your position on this topic? And why?
How should organizations know if their diversity and inclusion programs are actually helping the minority employees?
In what ways should organizations measure progress?
There are no shortcuts nor silver bullets for enabling inclusive workplaces. I will be looking for a good critique of the readings and course materials in this essay.
