Identify your organization and give a description of what the organization does.

The course assignments will require you to identify an organization or agency for assessing and planning a macro change. You may choose any organization that interests you. For instance, you may select your field placement agency, your current place of employment, or somewhere you have previously worked or volunteered. You may alternatively select an organization or agency where you would like to work; however, please keep in mind that being knowledgeable about or having access to an organization will help you obtain the necessary information to complete the course assignments.
Initial Prompt:
In this discussion you will complete the first two steps of the PREPARE process (P & R):
P – Identify Problems to address
R – Review your macro and personal Reality
There are two parts to this discussion. Please follow the discussion outline and respond to each item in complete sentences.
PART I.
In the first part of this discussion, you will provide information about the organization you selected. You will evaluate the potential for a macro-level intervention, define and prioritize the problems you identify, translate the problems into needs, and determine which of the needs you will address.
1. Identify your organization and give a description of what the organization does. Describe where it is located and who it serves. Provide the organization’s mission statement if it has one. State if it does not have a mission statement.
2. Next, describe what you see as the core problems for this agency.
3. Next, define each of the problems and rank them in order of priority
4. For each problem, create a need statement. For example, if the problem is that an agency has a high “no-show” rate for client appointments, the need would be “to increase the appointment attendance rate.”
5. Then, identify which need you will address. You may select no more than two needs.
PART II.
In the second part of this discussion, you will examine your macro and personal reality by evaluating organizational and other macro variable that may have a positive or negative influence on the change process and then assess our personal reality for being a successful change agency.
1. Describe organizational or other macro factors could work for or against you and the agency during the change process. Address each of the following categories:
Resources and funding – how your agency is funded. Whether the funding is sufficient.
Constraining regulations or laws – rule or laws that influence the quality and quantity of work
Internal political climate – organizational culture and management style
External political climate – the local government that influences the community and your organization
Cultural factors – describe the local culture and how it influence or is influenced by the organization
Other factors – any other factor you can think of that influence your organization
2. Next, list your personal strengths and weaknesses that could help or hinder your efforts to successfully implement change.
Response Prompt:
Select one classmate and provide the following feedback:
1. Do you agree with the problems they identified and their ranking of these problems? If their responses differ from your, discuss what you see to be the main differences.
2. How do the macro and personal strengths and weaknesses your classmate identified compare to the ones you identified? What do you have in common? What are your differences?
