What else do you notice about the interactions?

Application Paper 1: TV Character Analysis
The goal of this assignment is for you to watch and analyze two characters (between the ages of 1 and 16 years of age) from a TV show.
Step 1: Choose a family friendly show with at least two children between the ages of 1 and 16 years.
The show should be:
Appropriate for a school assignment (Disney TV/sitcoms work well)
Accessible on regular TV, Netflix, Hulu, etc.
Real people (not animated)
Step 2: Write the paper
See below for a sample framework for the paper.
Papers are expected to be approximately 3 pages (double-spaced).
All papers should follow APA format (title page and abstract not required).
Must cite text throughout paper to relate to course concepts.
Sample Framework for Paper – Use indicated headings (in bold) within your paper to help guide the reader:
Character Analysis: Insert Name of Show You Chose
Summary of Show (1-2 paragraphs)
In this section, write a summary of the show:
What is the name of the show?
What is the show about?
Who are the characters (including names/ages of the children)?
Who is the target audience for this show? (Families? Children?)
Analysis: Character 1 (1-2 paragraphs)
In this section, write 1-2 paragraphs describing the first character you will analyze. Answer the following questions:
What is the character’s name?
How old is the character? If unknown, give your best estimate.
What do you notice about the character’s physical development? (Cite text)
What do you notice about the character’s cognitive development? (Cite text)
What do you notice about the character’s social-emotional development? (Cite text)
Analysis: Character 2 (1-2 paragraphs)
In this section, write 1-2 paragraphs describing the first character you will analyze. Answer the following questions:
What is the character’s name?
How old is the character? If unknown, give your best estimate.
What do you notice about the character’s physical development? (Cite text)
What do you notice about the character’s cognitive development? (Cite text)
What do you notice about the character’s social-emotional development? (Cite text)
Character Interaction (2-3 paragraphs)
Discuss the following areas, citing the text and specific examples that support your opinions:
How do the two characters that you identified interact with one another?
Are the characters’ interactions believable?
How do age and development relate to the interactions?
How do physical, cognitive, and social-emotional factors relate?
Do the characters have equal parts in the show?
Is one character a caregiver to the other?
What else do you notice about the interactions?
Did the characters display any academic, educational, or critical thinking skills?
What sort of aggressive behaviors did they exhibit? What about prosocial behaviors? What were the consequences of those behaviors? (For example, one common criticism of some shows is that characters often engage in inappropriate behaviors for which they are not punished, and characters may escape unhurt from situations that would cause physical harm in real life. In other shows, it is made clearer what behaviors are or are not acceptable.)
Would viewing the show reinforce or break down any stereotypes? If so, which ones?
How were gender roles portrayed?
How did the adults (if any) interact with the children on the show?
Is there anything else in the show that you consider to be relevant in evaluating its impact?
Summary (1 paragraph)
What did you learn from this analysis?
How does this relate to this course?
What conclusions can you draw?
Reference (This page should stand alone at the end of the document and follow APA format)
