To consider ‘Butler’s Model’ in relation to this place, in real or hypothetical terms;
To consider how media influences our tourism decisions;
To put this discussion in the context of material presented in the first weeks of lectures and readings;
To expand on the ideas presented so far in this course with further readings uncovered on your own, in relation to your selected place.

To expand on these ideas and concepts with academic/scholarly journal articles uncovered on your own, relating to any concepts, ideas or places that you discuss.

1000 words maximum in total for Parts 1, 2 and 3 combined. You may choose how to distribute them but there are guidelines below for you!
Part 1 – Place and Culture / Icons and Ambiance:
Provide a brief scholarly discussion (one paragraph) on the concepts of ‘place’ and ‘culture’ in relation to your selected city, drawing on ideas from the *Smith article*;
Also provide a brief scholarly discussion (one paragraph) of your city in the context of the *Gravari-Barbas article*. Consider any big, iconic places and structures in the city, as well as the general ambiance;
Fold in ideas from your own research that are appropriate to your discussion;
Approximate maximum 300 words total – guideline only.
Part 2 – The Butler Model:
Discuss the Butler Model (presented in the Lecture 4 slides) in relation to your chosen place;
Describe how this place MIGHT go through the five stages (please use *bold headings* for each stage) – describe what changes MIGHT happen to that place at each stage. Give specific examples of what might happen, hypothetically, if this place were to promote itself as a resort town. This does not have to be what really does or will happen, just your own ideas;
Fold in ideas from your own research that are appropriate to your discussion;
Approximate maximum 400 words total – guideline only.
Part 3 – Media influences on tourism:
Provide a brief scholarly discussion (one or two paragraphs) of the concept of media influences on tourism by exploring your selected place as an example, drawing on ideas and concepts presented in the related lecture and readings;
You can use existing media (eg a movie or book), or create your own imaginary media if you cannot find anything!;
Fold in ideas from your own research as well;
