Concert Report
Concert Report:
You will be required to watch all the pieces in these concerts sets of YouTube videos that are listed below. There are three different pieces some of which have multiple movements. The specific purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate the listening skills that you have acquired in this class.
Your Assignment
For this final project, you must include the following:
1. The full name of the composer of each piece.
2. The full title of each composition and the different movements if there are multiple movements.
3. The name of each orchestra, the name of its conductor and the full names of any featured soloists.
4. If there are multiple movements, you must address each individual movement and, if possible, the number and tempo marking for each movement. For most YouTube videos you can click on “more” underneath the video window to get complete information about the tempi and timbre of the different movements for multiple-movement pieces.
What did you hear from the standpoint of melody, harmony, rhythm/meter, texture, dynamics, tempo, musical form, historical period, and instrumentation? I am interested in reading how you express, in your own words, what you have heard and what you have observed while watching the concert videos. I am not at all interested in any historical and biographical information that you have looked up on the Internet. That would turn this project into a high school book report. An originality program will be used to check for plagiarism.
This assignment gives you the opportunity to demonstrate the listening and analysis skills that you have developed in this class. More important is your ability to produce an end-of-semester term paper that should be at least five pages in essay form, using MLA or APA formatting, that summarizes your concert-viewing and listening experience and skills, and addresses the different musical criteria that we learned about this semester: melody, harmony, rhythm/meter, texture, dynamics, tempo, musical form, historical period, and instrumentation.
Please remember that you must watch all of the three pieces in the concerts listed and grouped below as YouTube Videos. Each grouping may be thought of as a full concert.
Concert 1

W. A. Mozart – Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, K. 488
