Learning objective: students will learn the various areas of practice as generalist social workers and how each area of practice works to enhance the quality of life for individuals, families’ groups, and communities.

Introduction: Chapter 3 discusses the history of human services delivery and how human services has transformed over the course of the past two decades. More specifically, this chapter identifies the significance of human services delivery for various populations in the United States of America. However, social worker students will focus specifically on the impact human services delivery has on children and families in the United States of America. Reviewing the transformation of child welfare, families, and child labor laws.
Learning Objective: Students will learn the various areas of practice as generalist social workers and how each area of practice works to enhance the quality of life for individuals, families’ groups, and communities.
Conclusion: upon completion of this chapter, students will have a working knowledge of the various programs and services provided by social workers to address social issues faced by individuals, families’ groups, and communities.
Learning Activity: Student are required to review chapter 3 and become familiar with the history of human services and social welfare as it relates to children and families. This chapter will provide important dates and transitions in the human profession field. Students will become knowledgeable of the changing trends in human services as well as the importance of knowing the various jobs in the human services profession that works specifically with individuals, families’ groups, and communities.

Student will have a multiple-choice examination of the history of Human Services as it pertains to children and families as well as the advances in the social welfare profession. This multiple-choice examination is worth 10 points and will be provided on-line.
