The Interview.
Create interview questions based on paper requirements before the interview. Example interview questions/ideas:
Consider the ecological perspective when constructing questions.
What have been the significant challenges of this person’s life?
How has the person coped with significant life challenges?
What systems has this person interacted with?
What systems, environments, and historical events of significance have influenced the person’s life?
What are their attitudes towards aging?
B. The Paper
Organize your report into the following sections (Parts I-IV) and label each section using the interview information. Write a 8-page paper.
Part I: Interview Overview (2 pages):
Briefly describe your interviewee’s life chronologically, highlighting important significant events. This is a minor part of the paper and is intended to provide basic information about the individual.
Part II: Theory Application (4 pages):
Select a theory below and discuss how it applies to the interviewees’ life:
Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development
Social Learning Theory
Kohlberg’s theory of moral development
Mary Ainsworth Attachment Theory Conclusion
Ecosystems/Person-in-Environment Perspective
Identify a minimum of three interviewees’ strengths and three areas of need or challenges?
If you were a social worker assigned to the interviewee, describe 2 to 3 goals and interventions you would recommend?
Part III: Reflection (1 page):
Provide your reactions to having completed this life history report.
Describe how your attitudes and feelings toward older adults and the aging process changed or were affected.
Describe how did you apply self-awareness and self-regulation to manage the influence of your personal biases when interviewing an older adult?
Part IV: Create an ecomap (1 page)
Create an ecomap by applying your interviewee’s information.
Refer to chapter 5 (pages 579-582) as a guide on creating an ecomap of your interviewee.
